Job Description


Our client, a family owned manufacturing company in Newark, has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Purchasing Manager.

Objectives of Purchasing Function
Purchasing raw materials at the best price relative to quality
This requires knowing our manufacturing and product properties. It requires knowing what the supplier does.
Communicate feedstocks trends and costing actions. To leadership and advisors.
Offer strategic vision for purchasing certain types of materials.
Be aware of what our competitors are purchasing and the major relationship.
Understands supplier's cost, quality, reputation, reliability, production capacity and delivery schedules.
Finding local sources of feedstocks in Europe and Asia in support of their mfg. operations.
Compare multiple suppliers, including those based in other countries, to prepare a shortlist of possible suppliers.
Award Supplier Contracts
Is a team player, takes ownership of their contribution and how the immediate team and extended team performs overall.
Needs and Supplier Analysis
Understands and performs strategic purchasing by benchmarking how we are currently performing, resources are being used, purchasing costs per department. The purchasing department looks at growth trajectory and develops plan to help the business perform better and/ or save costs.
Strategic
Analyzes the supplier's market to see if we are using the right supplier, at the right price point, to meet its business needs.
Compare multiple suppliers, including those based in other countries, to prepare a shortlist of possible suppliers.
Mfg.
Setup a just in time deliveries of feedstocks for mfg. supporting the mfg. schedule.
Plan with mfg. for the current year, letting them know the feedstock combination relative to price.
Direct manufacturing to process the right mix of varied PTFE feedstocks to insure the optimal product cost.
Convert the sales demand into a purchasing budget. taking into consideration existing inventory levels. Ensure that raw material inventory is maintained commensurate with the level of accuracy of the sales forecast.
The purchasing person is responsible as to weeks of supply on hand for make to stock and make to order products from an inventory control
As we overhaul a product costs due to competitor pressure, purchasing should come up with suggestions for varied feedstocks combined with reduced conversion cost to remain competitive.
Quality control
Technically involved in understanding the feedstock discrepancies in terms of composition and particle size and being able to express the problem by participating in its solution with the supplier.
Be able to communicate to suppliers what the future needs in terms of chemical composition and cost profiles are. Work with suppliers to create next generation of feedstocks. This is part of being technically competent on our product development.
Financial
Negotiating the best terms and price for products. Incorporate terms with fundamental job. (Perhaps prompt payment can get a better price.)
Maintain the open to buy for waxes and ptfe for feedstocks.
Strategic team member for Mfg. product development and sales.
Product development
Act as a source for finding feedstocks that will fit the new product specification required and cost profile. Yes, but fit with related.
Perhaps under work with sales, marketing, technical service, manufacturing, and product development to provide information on raw materials and to obtain needed materials. Examples are the nature of various forms of PTFE, new waxes, potential toll manufacturers, etc.
Experience
Material science, chemistry, or engineering degrees. Possibly bachelor's in management
Five years working in a lab, or and in purchasing raw materials on a global basis.
Working for a company that is less than 200 Million in sales
A person who has 10 to 20 years' experience.
Currently Purchasing multiple raw materials upwards of 15 to 25 million dollars annually
Senior Manager
Purchased or sourced raw material internationally definitely North America.
Understands international shipping terms, cross border challenges.
Understands sales, raw material purchasing, manufacturing and Inventory planning "SRPMI" how departments jointly coordinate their efforts so that there is an ongoing comprehensive continuous planning process. Cover this as part of job.
Optional, but a Plus
Certified Purchasing Manager
Has taken negotiation training seminars.
