Our client, a non-profit company in New Brunswick has an exciting opportunity for an HR Director. The Director of Human Resources (HR) is an energetic, seasoned, organized, and flexible senior-level administrator with deep commitment to their vision and mission, combined with empathy for its clients and staff, dedication to high-quality service delivery, and a strong track record of getting exceptional results. This person is the highest ranking member of the HR team, providing leadership, direction, and management of all HR-related areas. They are a member of the senior management team, who ensuring that theorganizations HR-related plans are set according to long-term organizational strategy and external regulations, and activities are coordinated, integrated, data-driven, and well-executed with attention to detail.

The Director of HR is a strategic thinker with significant experience operating a wide range of programs at an interdisciplinary, multi-site organization with many moving parts, preferably within the non-profit sector. S/he is a proven planner, problem solver, manager, developer, and partner. S/he is confident and decisive, thrives in a fast-paced, complex, dynamic environment, and promotes entrepreneurism, creativity, and respect and compassion for staff members and the diverse populations that the client serves. S/he partners with and manages a varied HR staff, possessing the sensitivity to understand and facilitate their differing roles. S/he has the courage of conviction with the ability to serve as a passionate spokesperson and bridge builder. S/he makes tough calls and draws boundaries when necessary, but also seeks guidance and support in regard to opportunities and challenges. S/he also possesses a sense of humor and maturity that helps to maintain perspective and a sense of balance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
HR Administration and Management
HR Management


  • Manage day-to-day organizational HR systems, including staff services, volunteer services, policies and procedures

  • Support management by providing advice, counsel, and decisions on employee matters

  • Interface with the executive, programs, operations, and development departments on HR-related matters

  • Maintain relationships and partnerships with HR-related vendors, businesses, etc.

  • Enforce adherence to agency requirements, and advise management on needed actions

  • Consult with legal counsel on personnel matters as appropriate, or as directed by the CEO

  • Procure and maintain staff licenses and certifications in conjunction with department directors

  • Maintain records and files of staff, volunteers, and HR-related contractors/consultants

  • Ensure compliance with organizational and programmatic policies and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local legal requirements (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, EEO, ADA, DOL, ERISA, Title VII, etc.)

  • Collaborate in the continuous improvement of safety programs and practices to ensure compliance with business and regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, DOH, DOT, etc.)

  • Maintain awareness of new trends and developments in human resources, and incorporate new developments into the organization as appropriate

  • Conduct research and produce literature on HR program administration and management

  • Ensure confidentiality of records and information, and discretion in information sharing, as per policies



Staff Services


  • Oversee staff services, including hiring/on-boarding/orientations, workplans, performance reviews/ improvement, compensation/benefits, promotions/transfers, and resignations/terminations

  • Oversee employee involvement in agency-wide staff-oriented workgroups, activities, projects, and events

  • Oversee the administration of the agencys collective bargain agreements as needed

  • Conduct appropriate employee-related mediations and investigations of allegations, and bring closure

  • Encourage staff to seek advice and counsel from the HR department as needed

  • Work with insurance carriers to ensure employee benefits and compensation administration is carried out on a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner

  • Collaborate with payroll services to achieve appropriate handling of all employee-related transactions concerning compensation, benefits, workers compensation, and garnishments



Volunteer Services


  • Ensure effective management of agency volunteers, including selection/on-boarding/orientations, workplans, performance reviews/ improvement, and resignations/terminations



Policies & Procedures


  • Conduct annual reviews and make recommendations to CEO and senior leadership team for improvement of the agencys policies, procedures, and practices on personnel matters

  • Communicate changes in agency personnel policies and procedures, and ensure proper compliance

  • Ensure effective staff management and employee actions through researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines



General


  • Represent the client in external meetings, events, and forums, and advocate on behalf of them, the community, and program participants

  • Conduct, attend, and participate in internal meetings to maintain and improve professional competence

  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual HR progress reports (both internal and external)

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO



QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelors Degree in human resources, business administration, or related field a minimum requirement, with a Masters Degree inHuman Resources or Business Administration preferred

  • Minimum of 6 years of high-level professional experience in human resources as a generalist, particularly in employee recruitment, employee relations, and benefits management

  • Baseline PRH or SPHR certification preferred

  • Successful track record of developing and administering HR priorities and plans

  • Successful track record of developing staff and teams, including coaching, leveraging, and collaboration

  • Successful track record of building relationships with external partners and harnessing resources for work

  • Successful track record of communicating program work and achievements

  • Experience making and implementing successful recommendations to an executive team

  • Experience with project development and management

  • Knowledge of HR-related and project management software preferred

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards concerning nonprofits and HR operations and administration

  • Valid drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle

  • Knowledge of OSHA, EEO, ADA, ERISA, and related employment, labor, and staff rules and regulations

  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and HR-related software

  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly recommended
