Category Merchandiser III

Our client in the west area of the Twin Cities is looking for a Category Merchandiser III on a contract basis running until January 2021.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • -Establish retail sell strategy (base and promotional pricing) for each category to ensure profitability, competitiveness and responsiveness to market changes
  • -Establish Market Development Fund (MDF) accrual and spending strategy to maximize sales and optimize profit
  • -Align strategy and tactics for planning, promotion and pricing with Corporate Private Brands team
  • -Provide competitive merchandising solutions for retail formats by researching market conditions to determine potential sales of product or service and retail trends
  • -Collaborate with critical Private Brands and Sales team stakeholders
  • -Independently problem solves issues and develop, deploy and support national and department initiatives as determined by Director and VP

-Financial Management

  • -Proactive management of the Sales and Gross Profit metrics and reporting for your categories
  • -Establish controls and audit process for pricing and promotional spend
  • -Review period data to assess sales and category profitability across all regions, adjust as needed
  • -Oversight of variation and category investment (MDF) maximizing effectiveness of promotional spend
  • -Monitor and manage item code dates to minimize Shrink. Collaborate with region PB Merchant on product dispensation to achieve budgeted Shrink goals.
  • -Collaborate sourcing opportunities for best cost

-Promotional Planning and Execution

  • -Compiles market, supplier and consumer information in support of identifying national promo opportunities
  • -Create national trimester plan for the category, and coordinate its execution with the Region merchandising team to develop best Private Brand sales plan for the market
  • -Grow sales by creating weekly ad and supporting existing merchandising programs
  • -Responsible for proofing and ensuring accuracy of promotional activity and communication within assigned category
  • -Review weekly ad forecasts and provide direction to the buyers to determine purchase quantities to meet ad requirements
  • -Coordinate with procurement teams for all regions to help maintain required shrink and spoilage commitments with consideration of lowest cost of goods
  • -For all promotions, conduct post-promotional review and analysis to determine if promotional requirements were met and develop improved plans for future promotional activities
  • -Utilize promotion tools to achieve Category Business Plan. Manage category assortment and design and implement plan-o-gram strategies to maximize sales .
  • -Resolve merchandising requests and concerns for all regions while maintaining a high level of professionalism and service

  • Bachelor's degree preferred. Relevant work experience required.
  • 3-5 years minimum industry experience. Previous experience, or experience with similar exposure to merchandising or operations.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills - demonstrated ability to be successful in areas such as negotiation, vendor relations and strategic management
  • Aptitude for and understanding of Financial Reports, including prior experience with Profit and Loss statement responsibility
  • Buying Systems acumen
  • Well-developed computer aptitude with proficient skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office. Must be able to adapt to and learn new systems quickly.
