Job Description

Reporting to the Tool Room Working Lead and the VP of Engineering, the Tool and Die Maker specializes in the construction, repair, and maintenance of stamping dies, jigs, fixtures, and gages. Operates various machine tools and performs other highly skilled work, such as laying out produced tooling, set up and operate OBI Presses, Hydraulic Presses and inspect product. May involve considerable development work, examine previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, as well as recommend design modifications regarding construction and functionality. 

Occasionally construct tools where no design is available on an as-needed basis. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Problem Solving/Analysis
  • Create tool/fixtures from designs prints or verbal instructions.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to customer specifications, using precision measuring tools and equipment as necessary (micrometers, calipers, gauges (pin, thread, indicator, height), optical comparators and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
  • Maintains specifications; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by performing daily housekeeping duties
  • Maintains equipment by adhering to maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; identify equipment that will need repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Report proper labor hours in the ERP system
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Exceptional time management and or organization skills. Ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time

Physical Conditions:

  • Lift, push and/or pull 50 pounds
  • Stand at least 95% of scheduled shift
  • Routinely perform reaching, twisting, bending, and grasping to move and set tools, equipment, and materials
  • Perform under AS9100 standards

Qualifications / Education / Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in the tooling field
  • Must be proficient at operating all toolroom machines, i.e., mills, lathes, grinders, saws, etc.
  • Good technical math skills (shop math, geometry, and trigonometry)
  • Troubleshooting/problem-solving skills
  • Must be a “US Person” as defined by US Government and able to work without restriction with ITAR related data.
